Attempt at Graphgan-ing - Shelved

I've tried twice to do this Jungle Buddies kit I bought from Mary Maxim. I give up! I'm still pondering how to use this huge bag of yarn. One alternative I've thought about is crocheting the background only and then cross stitching the design on. Help! It is too cute to scrap it entirely.
