Finished yesterday. Intended for Bob and Edie who are hosting the Thanksgiving dinner to which I am invited. I "winged it" using the sc, ch 2 stitch from a Lily Sugar 'n Cream dishcloth pattern. I got the yarn free at a class I took at the Concord S. C. Convention in October.

It's only a scrapghan
....But I love the way it turned out. I only had to finish the white row and it was the 40" diameter that I was aiming for. I don't remember when I started it or what pattern I followed. I had put it out on the sunporch in a cute little basket. It looked nice just sitting out there, but I'm glad to get a UFO/WIP project finished.
Photogenic, but....
I finished this yesterday. It only had about 4 rows needed. I used the picot edging from the Cutie Hat. It looks nice in the picture, but it does not feel soft. This is what disappointed me about the Bernat Mosaic yarn with which I was enamored the past year or so. It is so fun to work with, but the "hard" feel is a real downside. I still have about ten skeins of the yarn, four in this color and more in a brighter colorway. We shall see what emerges from that!
The first 2014 project
This is the first item I have finished for the 2014 Knit and Crochet ministry. I didn't quite get it finished for the ingathering/distribution of the 2013 items last weekend. It was my trial of a large "solid" granny square, which I believe would be warmer than the traditional "holey" granny. It is 40" square, the size I am making my "lapghans." I'm thinking of using it for some baby size (30" square) throws, since I have learned that holey patterns are not desirable for babies, who can get their fingers caught in the holes.
Version 2
This is my second cutie hat, using a solid color. I used Lion Brand Pound of Yarn. It is not as bulky as the Red Heart Super Saver, so it turned out a little smaller, maybe toddler size? In working through the second time, I discovered that I had erred in my first project. I failed to notice that in the fourth round, the pattern was altered to add more fpdc (front post double crochet) ribbing. It still came out with the same number of stitches in that row, so it didn't really ruin it. The body of the hat just has twice the ribbing of the first hat. :-)
New pattern
This is a new pattern "Cuffed Cutie Hat" I found on the label of some Red Heart Super Saver yarn I had in my stash. I was a little bored with the Team Spirit hats, so enjoyed trying something different. The ombre yarn does not really showcase the stitching. But I like the picot edging. Its a girl's size.
Finished
This is the finished sweater that I gave to Abby. I later made a headband from the same yarn and gave to here. I don't know if she's worn it or not.
An aberration
I made this is yellow and black when I needed something to work on during a meeting of the Knit & Crochet Ministery group a couple of months ago. My apologies, Bucks.

Go Bucks! For Charity
P.S. These were made largely from the Team Spirit Yarn market. It is worsted weight and available in two color striping in the popular team colors. What 's nice about it is that you can get the two-color hats and scarves wi thought the agony of tying on the different colors and then having to sew in the ends.
I donated these to the KCM.

Works in Progress
I can't believe all the projects I have going on right now. Since I took this picture last week, I have finished the "Sunflower" sampler afghan, the gold, green, brown and cream object. I also finished the red-and-gray hat and scarf in the foreground and gave it to Jim for his birthday, which we celebrated last Sunday Aug. 25. I have a whole bag of the red and gray yarns now. So I'm making them for the charity group. The orange and black hat is also finished, but the turquoise and red objects are still pending.
Another Girl's Cardigan
Before I finished the turquoise cover-up for Abby, I found another pattern for a cute girl's cardigan I just had to try. The pattern calls for Paton's Classic Wool DK Superwash, which is a wool. I decided to substitute an acrylic yarn in the light weight. It is a much better pattern. I have all the parts done now, but am procrastinating putting on the buttons and sewing in the sleeves. Once again I've been distracted by other things. :-) By the way, this yarn is a much prettier red color than what shows here. It is not as orange, but more a cherry red. The pattern is titled "Girl's Playground Cardigan To Crochet."
Purple Is For Allison
Here is Allison modeling the purple "cover-up" I made for her using a free pattern from Caron. It is a very simple pattern, but I had trouble following the instructions. I did e-mail back and forth with Caron a couple of times. They e-mailed me an edited version which I found a little better, but I still ended up just looking at the picture and diagram and just doing it. Allison looks cute, doesn't she.
I have a turquoise one almost done for Abby, but I'm having to do some of it over and I have put it aside for a while.
The purple yarn is Caron Simply Soft. The Turquoise is a Red Heart product.

Christmas spirals
Here's my experiment with the spiral pattern in Christmas colors. It was a great break from my scrap lapghans.

I can't believe I did this!
I can't believe I did this
I can't believe I actually bought more yarn, but, yep, I did. It came by FedEx today. Now I remember getting a free pattern for a girl's lightweight, short sleeve sweater and I bought purple yarn for Allison, and turquoise for Abby.

UFO uncovered
This is the contents of a plastic bin I've had in my closet, for who knows how long? There is one finished stocking and three nearly finished stockings. They seem to need just the heel and foot. The main part is done. This is something I can work on when I get bored with my scrap lapghans, whenever. There is a lot of yarn with it. Hunter green and dark red.
New spiral pattern
Here's what I'm working on today. This is the coaster version. I think I'll continue making the Christmas colored ones.
Bored
I'm bored with this for a while, so I tried a new pattern. I've decided that I need to go to 40" on this, so 18" more. Ugh.

Tabled project
This is the project I was working on when I got diverted to the charity work. I am on the last strip.
I am working it in Simply Soft off-white. The pattern is from "Vanna's Afghans All Through the House." The name of the pattern is Aran Fisherman. It is a pretty complicated design. To keep it straight, I made a chart of each row and which row of the pattern to follow on each row. Then I checked them off as I went, making 263 rows in each strip. It was not until the last strip that I didn't have to constantly refer to the pattern. I will probably have to refer to the pattern when I resume work on it.
I like the pattern because it is definitely not boring. I don't think I will donate this but I may give some of my older afghans away to Goodwill or Amvets, to make room for it.
Still Unfinished
This is one of the projects I rescued from my closet while attempting to organize my scrap yarn and projects. It is close to being done.
The yarn is Bernat Mosaic Day dream. I still have a lot of this. I love working with the striping yarn. I do not like the "feel" of the yarn. It is NOT baby soft. I also have the yarn in primary colors. Maybe I should just try to sell the unused yarn on eBay.
Go, Bucks!
Last year Red Heart released their "Team Spirit" yarns. Each is two colors in a large striping pattern. I got some in navy and gold and made some scarfs for Allison and Charlie. Navy and gold are the Highpoint Elementary School colors. They were not very well received. The kids thought it looked like black and gold, not blue and gold. :-) I had some in the red and gray version, so when the charity group was asking for scarfs and hats, I made three hats and one scarf.
Baby granny square
This is from scraps of worsted weight yearn. My first attempt at making one large granny square. The charity group gave me a reason to actually do something I've had in the back of my mind for a long time. I am a Happy Camper (Crocheter)!
Round Baby Blanket
I made this from scrap baby yarn. The pattern is from a kit I bought, probably from Mary Maxim. Again, I will give it to the charity group.
Preemie blanket
I think this is one of those projects I started just because I wanted to. I finished it with some baby weight yarn that doesn't really match, but is somewhat compatible. I hope the charity group will be able to use it. It seems they have a distribution in November when all the items are displayed and people from different groups who assist the needy come in and take what they can use.
Scarf
I kinda remember making this last winter. I probably intended to give it to Allison or Abby. Now I think I will give it to the charity group. They are concentrating on scarfs and lapghans at this time.
Another UFO
This is another UFO I found in the closet. I found the pattern and I hope to finish it someday. But again, what will I do with it. It was obviously intended for Allison and Abby, but they are too big for it now.
UFO Finished
This is one of the Un-finished Objects (UFO) I found when cleaning out my yarn closet. It was all done except for weaving in some ends and putting on hook and eye at the back opening. It is done now.
I think I started it when Abby was small. It seems to be a size 1 or 2. I remember getting discouraged because I ran out of thread with just a little left to finish. I bought more thread and it didn't match very well. It is not real noticeable, but it bothers me.
The question now is, what am I going to do with it?
Sampler Afghan
I enjoyed doing this so much! There is a different stitch on each round. The pattern is from "Afghans For All Seasons."
A member in the Crochet Partners group in Yahoo referred to the pattern and posted a picture. I was intrigued and started to search for a copy of the book on Amazon and eBay. Ultimately, I discovered I have the book in my own collection!
I used all scrap yarns for this. I would like to try one with all new yarns. For now, however, I am concentrating on using up my scrap yarns on lapghans for the charity group.
Ripple Scrap Lapghan
This is done, too, but I'm procrastinating working in the ends. :-) This is all single crochet worked in the back loops only. There are 10 sc between the peaks and valleys. I used black every 12 rows (there are two rows of each color). The black really makes the other colors "pop." If (or when) I do another one, I think I will do fewer sc between the peaks and valleys.
Large Granny Square
I finished this on Sunday July 7, 2013. It is 40" square. I'm going to turn it in to the charity needlework group. The next meeting is July 15. This was very easy to work on while watching the George Zimmerman trial. Some more scrap yarn used up!
Another scrap afghan
I started this yesterday, using the three balls of scrap yarn. I changed tactics after the first couple of rounds. I started out with a bone color, planning to use it every 6th row. Then I worked from a scrap ball, using up all of one scrap, then attaching the next where ever the first one ended. Then I switched to changing at the beginning of each row. But now there are too many loose ends to be worked in. I think I'm going to go back to finishing out each scrap, while still using the bone color on each sixth round. The scraps are being used up faster than I expected.

Two New Starts
I was a crocheting fool yesterday. I started two new projects.
First was a ripple throw of random colors alternating with black rows. I made good progress using up some of the scrap yarn I cleaned out the closet last week. It was so fun. I started it approximately 36" and plan on going to 48" length.
Then I looked through my pattern books and found "Afghans for All Seasons." This book has a pattern called "Stitch Sampler." One of the posters on CrochetPartners yahool group referenced the pattern and posted a picture of her interpretation. I searched on Ebay and Amazon for the book. In the back of my mind, I thought I had seen that book somewhere. Finally, yesterday, after I looked on my book shelf and found it. This was after I had already started the scrap ripple.
I had been thinking about how I could use up my scrap pinks and red. So, I had to do it. I started it, finishing 21 rounds before going to bed about 11 p.m. Oh, my. It is so fun. I have it out this morning, but I have to stop. I need to bake a batch of cookies for Faith Mission and go to the church to pick up a sewing project for Vacation Bible School.

Another UFO....
Another UFO... I wonder if I can find the pattern so I can finish it. I put a note in that says "Size 7 steel hook." I think the separate piece is a ruffled cap sleeve.
OK!! It took me an hour of looking through pattern magazines, but I found it!!
UFO
Here is one thing I uncovered in the closet. It looks beautiful, but I got discouraged that when I had to add a new ball of thread, it didn't match well. Guess. I will give it to charity.

Log Cabin progress
I am happy to report that I'm on track to finish the log cabin throw. It has been on the back burner while I worked on some other stuff. I am within minutes of finishing the last of the 36 squares. I'm hoping to get the squares assembled during the Democratic National Convention starting Tuesday, Sept. 4. I think it is going to be beautiful.
I am also using a Red Heart pattern for it, named Autumn Log Cabin Afghan. I bought all the yarn as required. It is Red Heart Super Saver in #256 Carrot, #332 Ranch Red, Light Thyme, #360 Cafe, #320 Cornmeal, #378 Claret and #334 Buff. All were listed with the pattern except the light thyme, which was supposed to be #4361 Frosty Green Fleck.
The special stitches were long-dc, and long-hdc. LONG-DC: yo and draw up a loop in next sc, yo and draw through 1 loop on hook, [yo and draw through 2 loops] twice. LONG-HDC: yo, insert hook in sc directly below the ch-1 and draw up a loop to height of row in work, yo and draw through all 3 loops on hook.
Each motif is bordered with 1 row of sc in Buff. The Outer Border is 6 rows, including the two pattern rows of Long-HDC as in Section 7.

I'm excited!
I've been so excited about crochet these past two weeks.
On Monday, May 27, I went to a meeting of a knitting and crochet group out of St. Matthew's Catholic Church. I learned about it from M.J. at Peace. We were at a meeting of the Peace "Quilting" group last month and I asked around about a crochet group. So M.J. told me about this meeting they were having at Panera's, so I went to it. About 10 women showed up. The learder/organizer, Glenda, showed up with bags and bags of yarn and every one grabbed some yarn and began crocheting or knitting. I picked up a skein of Bernat worsted weight yarn in bright colors and white. I started a lapghan in a pattern from my Vanna White book. It is a riged ripple. I got a good start on it and put some of my own stash with it in a couple of the ombre colors--yellow, lavendar and white. It was so fun! and I looked forward to meeting with them again.
Turns out they meet every Monday evening, once a month at Panera, and the other Mondays at Glenda's house off Cherry Bottom Road.
They were not meeting on Memorial Day Monday, but I went to Glenda's last Monday, June 3rd. Monday afternoon I found some Red Heart Spirit yarn I had in red and gray and started making the Red Heart Spirit Hat Pattern. I took the yarn I had, about 2 and a half skeins, with me to the meeting and finished that hat and started another one, which I finished just as the meeting ended. I left the two hats and the lapghan I started two weeks before and another bright colored child's throw I had made just for fun earlier this year (or was it last year?). Glenda had a big table full of donated yarn in the living room. And her dining room table was loaded with finished hats. The group has made and donated thousands of items to charities in central Ohio.
Tuesday I made another Spirit hat and a matching scarf.
